When I first applied for the program I wasn't entirely sure where I wanted to live, but I knew that I wanted to live on the East Coast to experience a white christmas. The more I looked into it the more I had my heart set on living in Boston. However I was matched with a family in Virginia and not knowing that much about Virginia I was open to the experience. It didn't take me long to fall in love with my new state!
There are many reasons why I love the state of Virginia. Firstly I have the best host family who are always informing me of places to go, and things to see and do. The best part is I'm doing things I wouldn't dream of doing back home simply because it isn't possible. I've been Ice Skating at an outdoor rink, been through the famous Corn Maize in Leesburg, and one of the most popular haunted forests. Virginia has so much to offer and the people here are really friendly.
Another thing I love about my state is that you get to experience all four seasons of the year - something that I can't do back home. I got to experience my first snow which was so amazing!
The biggest thing I love about Virginia is that I live only 30 minutes away from Washington D.C. The first time I went to Washington D.C I felt like I had stepped into a movie. It is truly amazing to see all the monuments and learn all the history behind them. I have seen the White House and Capitol Building, and although I have been into Washington a few times, there is still always something new to see and discover. As well as all the historic buildings in Washington, there is also a lot of other fun to be had, it has so much to offer.
These are just some of the reasons why I love Virginia. I honestly could live here forever, but for now I'm just planning on extending my au pair year and staying a second year.
